It reminds me a lot of Hearthstone, something it was inspired by but manages to establish its own identity. Oh man, this game looks so cool! It has a flashy design and bright, evocative artwork. Every faction has a pre-built deck, but once you are familiar with the game, you can mix and match according to the rules of the castle you choose to defend. The expansion also has a few more cards for every faction. The expansion faction, the Nupten Illusionists, is about slowing down the game and taking control of the battlefield. The Taulot Followers have a strong connection to each other with their hivemind, striking unannounced from their burrows. The Kurumo Warriors are built for strife, wielding weapons, and not afraid to get hurt if it means they get to hit harder. The Liothan Shapeshifters are masters in manipulation, able to heal damage from themselves and others. There are currently four factions in the game three in the base box and one in the expansion. Destroying the second portal has no effect other than preventing further spawns as you battle the Outsider. You win the game when you defeat its final iteration most have two, and a single one has three. If you manage to destroy the first portal, the first iteration of the Outsider comes, ehh, out. Every turn, each unit deals its damage to the unit on the other side or to your castle (minions) or the portal (allies) – minions in the backline destroy cards from the top of your deck. You can play allies into the lanes from your side of the battlefield, based on how much mana you have available (that depends on the portal). The expansion adds another horde with its own outsiders, as well as new outsiders for existing hordes.Įvery turn, the portal spawns a number of minions in lanes that you have to defend. The game comes with three different hordes, each with its own Outsider.

You can still engage them onto a free lane of the battlefield, where you can combat them as usual – and where they hit your castle if unopposed. Minions in the backline deal damage by milling cards from the top of your deck into your discard pile. They have no health or strength but will attack once a card effect grants them that. Then there are the specifically named minions that linger around in the so-called ‘backline’. Meanwhile, the longer you tarry, the more minions the portal spawns. Your goal is to destroy three portals and, with it, the Outsider attempting to break through into your realm. The minions you will be facing are drawn from a deck based on the number shown on the portal card. You will be defending on two fronts you have a castle with a health value that gets whittled down, and you also lose when your draw pile runs out.

You do this with a deck (either preconstructed or put together using certain limitations) of cards that give you allies, spells, equipment, and other tools to defend yourself. Skytear Horde is a card-based tower defense-style game where minions come out in waves, and you must defend against them. You win when you have worked your way through three portals, all stages of the Outsider – your final hurdle to restoring peace and quiet.

You have a castle to defend and yourself once your castle runs out of health or your deck runs out of cards, you lose the game. Can you and your allies defend your castle from the hordes of minions that assault it? In Skytear Horde, you are trying to build up your defenses as hordes and hordes of minions come out to kill you.
